Pastoral Council and Commissions

Pastoral Council

The Pastoral Council is to provide the primary and established means for the pastor and parishioners to respond to the pastoral mission of the Church and listen to the needs and hopes of the parish. The Council is consultative and collaborative.

The Pastoral Council consists of eight members of the parish and the pastor. In the first three years of the Council care will be taken to insure that the membership equally represents the historical communities of our parish: St. Peter the Apostle and St. Alphonsus. Therefore, four members are chosen from each site for the first three years. After this period the Pastoral Council will determine if this policy needs to be continued.

The Council meets monthly and shares its minutes with the parish community. Any parishioner may submit an agenda item through any one of the members.

Finance Commission

The purpose of the Finance Committee is to assist in the administering of the temporal goods of the parish. It possesses a consultative voice in administering parish finances and in budget matters is confined to overall parish expenditures. The Commission receives direction as to parish priorities form the Parish Pastoral Council.

Social Ministry Commission

The Parish Social Ministry Commission is the organized effort of the entire parish to serve those in need, to advocate for justice and to work at changing societal structures that perpetuate injustice. It is social because it applies the gospel vision to society and social relationships.

The Commission is composed of parishioners and staff members who meet regularly and serve to empower the entire parish community in its efforts to fulfill the Gospel mandate of charity and justice.

The work of the Commission involves assisting in local efforts in migrant ministry, providing a food pantry that is available for service the 2nd Wednesday each month, seasonal efforts with Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets and various other local efforts in appropriate areas.
