Mary A. Genchi, age 87, of Deerfield, passed away on September 27, 2017, at her daughter’s home under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Lenawee. She was born on April 10, 1930, in Cleveland, OH to Stephen and Catherine (Matko) Hrestak. On October 29, 1960, she was united in marriage to Anthony Genchi in Cleveland, OH and he preceded her in death on September 18, 2013.
Mary was a loving, caring and devoted Wife, Mother, and Nana. Her faith and family were two of the most important things in her life, and she left this world surrounded by both. Mary was very involved in her parish at Light of Christ and St. Paul’s in Cleveland attending prayer groups, aiding with the food pantry, volunteering and so much more. Above all, her family was her pride and joy. She loved bragging about her grandkids and cooking large meals in her home surrounded by family. Some of her favorite things included Croatian music, coffee, ironing, playing cards, baking Italian Christmas cookies and spoiling her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her sister, Catherine(Frank) Walker, daughter, Michelle (Jim) Mello of Dundee: two sons, Mark Genchi of Cleveland and Chip Genchi of Northfield, OH; five grandchildren, Dominic Genchi, Abigail Sprecher(Benjamin), Joseph Genchi, Ross Genchi, Sarah Mello and great grandson, Dylan Genchi and many nieces and nephews. Mary is preceded in death by her husband Anthony, her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
A Funeral Mass for Mary will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 5th, 2017 at Light of Christ Catholic Church, Deerfield( St. Alphonsus) with Fr. Marty Lukas, OSFS presiding. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
A Funeral Mass for Mary will also be celebrated at her home parish – St. Paul’s Croatian Catholic Church in Cleveland on Saturday, October 7th, 9am with Fr. Timothy Plavic presiding.
